| Our Cottage in the Country |
In June of this year we finally became home owners again. It took us a while to find a "cottage like" home in good condition within commuting distance to Markham, Ontario (just north of Toronto). We looked at many homes on cottage roads and even though our must have list was short, many of the homes we looked at were lacking 1 or 2 key items ... laundry, septic system, closets or storage space. What they did have were slanting floors, holding tanks, nosy neighbors (Miss Pinky), one or two had amazing lake views but homes were too small to live in. It started to get discouraging but in the end we found our piece of heaven 10 minutes from the lake with a 100 x 150ft lot. Following are a couple of interior pics from the day we took possession.

Alright, another fellow Canadian. Love your home... it has terrific bones... I can't wait to see what you do with it all...
I am putting my order in for more pics though... how can I be a nosy neighbour without pics and it is awfully hard to steal your ideas if we don't have visuals...just kidding honest... I may just borrow a few of your ideas though...hahaha
You really have me intriqued with the faux beam treatment... I want to do that in my living room... barn board is not that expensive... you can buy it at TIM-BR-MART for 1.19 a running foot, 12" wide... I know this because I just bought a load of it for the front of my house.

Frank and I discussed actually using board for the beams. If you look at the pictures above there is a cabinet between the living room and kitchen, there is already a beam there that is covered by drywall and painted burgundy. I wanted to paint that to look like a beam instead of drywall. Cladding it with barn board was something we looked at doing but there is no space between the cabinet and the existing beam, so if we mounted anything to the current drywall the cabinet door would not open. ... I know long explanation. Anyway, Frank really wants to have the faux brick extend here so it appears that the house was built around an old brick wall and I'm good with this (I'll get a beam in somewhere!)
